3 Ways to Host a Community Cleanup in DC. 1. Adopt Your Block (Mayor's Office of the Clean City): Commit to cleaning two blocks four times a year for two years. The Office of the Clean City can provide trash bags, gloves, and pickers with notice. Contact 311 in advance if you need trash pick up. Plus, your group gets a street sign recognizing your efforts! More: https://adoptablock.dc.gov/. 2. Lend a Helping Hand (DC Department of Public Works): In exchange for a $20 refundable deposity,t he Department of Public Works provides loaner toolkits (rakes, brooms, shovels, and trash bags) for cleanups held March - October. They'll also collect bagged trash from designated spots. Submit your application form at least two weeks in advance. More: https://dpw.dc.gov/helpinghands. 3. You & Your Neighbors! It's simple! Grab some trash bags, goves or a picker (if you want), and a neighbor. Walk or roll through your community, chat, and pick up litter as you go.

Stock up on Supplies: Grab trash bags, reusable gloves, pickers (people love 'em), and even water and snacks. You can always make it BYO. Get the Word Out: Advertise your cleanup. Consider neighbors, local schools, community groups, and businesses. Clean! Pick up litter! Consider separating recycling. Bonus: Submit 311 requests for city services. Take Pics and Tally: Grab a group pic and count the number of volunteers and bags collected. Dispose of Trash: Take trash bags home to your bins or coordinate with a local school or business.
